Several months ago, I visited my college friend in Austin. While we were chatting, he brought up the idea: “If you think it is the right thing, then you should go for it”.
I didn’t really understand what he meant at that time, but I think I finally understand now.
During the onboarding week of my internship, I saw that the choir was recruiting people to perform in the concert. I love singing, but I didn’t join at first because I was worried it would take too much time after work. Hesitant, I asked another friend, and he said: “If that is what you want to do, then do it!”.
I accepted his advice and joined the choir, and it turned out to be so much fun. Practicing each Thursday, watching La La Land in the arranging room, performing on stage, meeting new people, everything was so new and interesting. I am always amazed by how talented people around me are.
Looking back, what made me hesitate is my fear of being judged by people for my performance and skills. However, it turns out that when I was on the stage, I entered a flow state and didn’t care about what others think, just being my best self.
I think I’ve written something about hell yeah or no. But sometimes it is hard to tell whether it’s a yes or no. You want to do it, but the hassle stops you from doing.
I believe there are many situations that your action doesn’t follow your heart for various reasons. I think I finally understand what does “follow your heart” means. It means to do what you think you should do, no matter how much of a challenge it is.

Rehearsal!
